Welcome to our mother-son book club website! So glad you’re here!
In the winter of 2015, I started a book club with a local group of moms and sons. At the time, our sons ranged in age from 7-9 years old. Now, three years later, we’re still going strong! We’ve read just under 40 books together and have gone on countless adventures, traveling across time and space with the characters we grow to love. We’ve had college athletes, jazz musicians, and authors visit our group. We’ve eaten alligator jerky, sushi, and dried crickets. We’ve gone on a downtown scavenger hunt, did laps around a track, and met a dog sled team.
We try to read books from a variety of authors, time periods, genres, topics, and perspectives. We get input on books from the mothers and sons and then create a schedule for the year.
Our meetings have a typical routine – we discuss the book, eat book-related food, and do a book-related or inspired activity. We generally meet in the youth room at my church but have also met in book-related locations such as our college track, basketball stadium, and police station. A highlight every year is when we let the dads take over and do a father-son book club meeting.
On this website, you can find a list of the books we’ve read, resources we’ve found helpful, and blog posts from our book club meetings.
