You can’t beat having jazz musicians come as guests to your book club! This month, we were fortunate enough to have Mike Van Lente and Jim Cooper (jazz percussionists) visit our book club and play some jazz for us.
Check out their webpages:
They taught us about the history of jazz music, about what makes jazz unique as a music genre, and about why they love being musicians. A highlight was when the boys got to try out their instruments!
After our jazz lesson, we ate some book-related food: oatmeal with little packets of sugar, sweet potato pie with whipped cream, apples and bread.
There was so much to discuss in the book! We talked about Flint, about what we thought of Herman E. Calloway, about forgiveness and regret, and about the scary bat heads in the Amos’ garage.
The boys took home a rock with the date on it!
